Sydney Nutritionist and Practicing Dietician

Nutritional Advice in Sydney – where to turn?

Everybody eats, so it is easy for each person to have their own opinion on food and nutrition – however many opinions put forth in the media, on the internet or even in casual conversations, are not based on sound research and evidence, rather they are often swayed by personal experience and anecdotal claims. It is easy to be confused by some of these messages, which are too often contradictory, when trying to figure out the best eating plan for you.

What exactly is an Accredited Practising Dietitian?

It may seem like a mouthful, but an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) is someone who has undertaken university level education to become a qualified expert in food, nutrition and dietetics.

Sydney NutritionistDietitian vs Nutritionist – What’s the Difference?

With substantial theory and assessed practice in clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and food service management, an APD registered with the Dietitians Association of Australia is the only credential recognised by the Australian Government, Medicare, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and most private health funds. This registration ensures that APDs uphold a Code of Professional Conduct, which means that the service and dietary advice they provide is ethical and more importantly, based on the latest in scientific evidence.

And, while all Accredited Practising Dietitians are also Nutritionists, a person with very little training (or even none at all!) can call themselves a ‘nutritionist’. However, a nutritionist or other professional is not qualified to provide indivualised dietary advice or medical nutrition therapy. When you see an APD you can be 100% confident that you are receiving the highest level of nutrition expertise.

Why see an APD?

If you are looking for professional, individualised nutrition advice for general healthy eating, food allergies, food intolerances, cancer, gastro-intestinal diseases, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sports performance or weight loss, then an Accredited Practising Dietitian can help through a one-on-one clinical nutrition consultation.

  • If you have a chronic disease, you may be eligible for up to 5 bulk billed sessions through Medicare CDM Program, otherwise you are able to claim through private health cover (depending on level of extras). (bulk bill Dietitian Sydney)
